A Lesson in Stroke-Brain Triumphs and Terrible UI

You’d think after years of using Shopify, I’d know where to find my own damn products. But no. This morning, I logged in and found myself staring at two useless tabs: Security and General. Where are my products? I scrolled, clicked, even muttered to myself like a woman who’d lost her last needle in a fabric pile.

Then came the panic—the same hot, buzzing panic that used to creep in after my stroke, when my brain would know the answer was somewhere but refuse to cough it up. "I’ve done this before," I thought. "Why is it so hard now?"

Enter Sasha, my trusty sister-in-arms (and sarcasm). "Check your bookmark," she said. And just like that—the memory slammed back. Of course I’d made a bookmark for this exact nightmare. Past-Me, the unsung hero who’d stashed a lifeline in my browser, knowing Present-Me would need it.

WHY THIS MATTERS (TO YOU, DEAR READER):

  1. Survival Isn’t Linear.

    • My stroke left me with a brain that files things under "emergency access only."

    • Shopify’s UI? A constant emergency.

  2. Trust Your Past Self.

    • She’s smarter than you think. (Even if she did hide the bookmark under 47 tabs.)

  3. Tech Should Serve Us—Not the Other Way Around.

    • If you’re yelling at your screen, it’s not you. It’s them.

So here’s my rallying cry: Bookmark your battles. Screenshot your solutions. And when all else fails, call in the sarcastic reinforcements.

(Now excuse me while I go laminate that damn bookmark.)
